Learn about the asset class - COPYRIGHT

Pessoa com notebook vista sobre uma mesa rodeada de fotos e textos vista de cima.

Closing our series of posts on the Classes of Intellectual Property Assets, today we're going to deal with the registration of COPYRIGHT.

Author is the natural person who creates a literary, artistic or scientific work.

Copyright protects such works and can be patrimonial (right to commercial exploitation of the work) or moral (claim of authorship, conservation of the unpublished work and guarantee of its integrity, among others). Copyright itself is independent of registration. It is born with the work. Registration is mainly for the purposes of proving authorship and the work's anteriority.

Books and texts are registered with the Copyright Office of the National Library Foundation.

On the other hand, the registration of artistic works or visual arts, such as photographs, paintings, sculptures and drawings, is carried out at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

The registration of musical compositions, on the other hand, is done in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro School of Music.
