Corporate name: get to know this asset class
Continuing with our series of posts explaining the differences between the classes of intellectual assets, today we will deal with the COMPANY NAME.
Although the trademark - the nature of which has already been described in the previous post - can sometimes be confused with the business name, they are distinct legal institutes.
The business name identifies the company through the articles of association and is usually registered with the State Board of Trade where the company is based.
An important fact to note is that it has no fixed expiry date and lasts as long as the company exists.
A well-known example of a corporate name is the clothing and accessories retail chain “Lojas Renner”, founded in Rio Grande do Sul and operating since 1965.
