Learn about the asset class - PATENTS

Metade de uma lâmpada virtual e um cérebro em um fundo azul sobre a mão aberta de um empresário

A PATENT is a property title granted by the State for a novel invention (invention patent) or derived from an existing one (utility model patent). The registration application is filed with the INPI, granting its holder the right, through the concession, to prevent third parties from manufacturing, using, offering for sale, or importing the product or process covered by the patent. An invention patent is valid for 20 years from the date of application, and a utility model patent is valid for 15 years from the date of application.

It is extremely important that there is no disclosure of any kind (anything that is made accessible to the public, such as publications of articles, presentations at lectures, exhibitions at fairs, etc.) about the subject of the patent application before the application is filed with the INPI, otherwise it will fall into the public domain.

One example is application no. PI 0908016-3 from Amazon Technologies, INC. (US), which describes an apparatus and method for constructing a data unit that includes a status buffer report.
